The city of Snina has 19,700 inhabitants and lies in the easternmost part of Slovakia in the Upper Zemplín region. It is the starting point to the Vihorlat Protected Landscape Area and the Poloniny National Park. The Carpathian Beech Forests, Old Beech Forests Nemecka, Sninský kameň, Starina Water Reservoir, Observatory in the Kolonické sedlo (Dark Sky Park) and wooden churches from the 17th and 18th centuries attract visitors to this region. The whole area is crowded with a number of international biking and hiking trails. The classicist manor in Snina is a two-winged building built in the 18th century. The reconstruction took place between 2012 and 2013. It was offi cially opened on July 5, 2013. It is a national cultural monument. There is a museum department, a gallery department and a library. In 2013, Snina’s manor house was awarded 3rd place in the nationwide presentation competition of completed buildings in Slovakia, called Stavba roka (Building of the Year). The bio-swimming pool in the holiday resort Sninské rybníky is located about 3 km from centre. It is located in a quiet countryside among trees, which multiplies its natural and especially ecological character. It uses water purifi cation technology by means of plants and algae. The area consists of a swimming pool with three deep lines for swimmers and non-swimmers, from lawns for relaxation and from the pool itself, which serves for fi ltration and water purifi cation. Visitors can enjoy playgrounds for sports activities, playgrounds for children, the catering and accommodation services.

The Chapel of the Virgin Mary of the Seven Sorrowns, also known as the Rholl Family Chapel, is a Classicist building from 1842. It was built by the businessman Štefan Rholl in the old cemetery in Snina, on the hill of Viničná Hora. Štefan Rholl also had a Chapel of St. Jan Nepomucký in 1832 built, which was demolished in 1935. A monument was built with a statue of St. Jan Nepomucký, whose author is unknown. The dominant buildings in the city of Snina include The Orthodox Church of St. Rastislav, which fascinates by its architecture using traditional materials and techniques. Part of the Poloniny National Park is the original Carpathian primeval forest Stužica – on the border of Slovakia, Poland and Ukraine in the Bukovské vrchy. Stužica is one of the most important protected areas in Slovakia and has been declared a national nature reserve.
