The village is located in the south of Slovakia. It is a part of admirable countryside, in the middle of Cerova Upland, in the valley of River Gortva, south-east from Filakovo. The settlement is already mentioned since 1425 as Danuskue, later on as Kues (1255), Anyaskw (1344), Ayanaskewalya (1427 – 1431), Haynachkeallya (1565), Hajnacžka (1773), in Hungarian language Ajnácskö. Castle is mentioned for the fi rst time in 1245. It was founded as a royal castle on site of an older fortress.
